April Update!

Good morning, Highwood Band Families!

Welcome to spring in the Highwood Band Program! It has been a very busy few weeks.

75 of our students just returned from Edmonton last week, where our 2 concert bands and 2 jazz bands had a chance to perform at the Cantando Festival. Students had opportunities to perform at venues such as the Winspear Centre and the Yardbird Suite, participate in clinics with renown conductors from around North America, and spend a day taking in all of the sights and sounds of West Edmonton Mall.

Our groups performed wonderfully, and as always, were fantastic ambassadors for High River! The adjudicators had some very positive feedback for our bands which we will use to propel us forward as we prepare for our appearance at the Festival of Bands in Red Deer on May 13th!

Upcoming Events!

Symphonic Rehearsals - Every Wednesday 3:30-5:15

Starting this week (April 20th), all Grade 9 students are invited out to rehearse with the Symphonic Band, as our appearance in Red Deer will be a 9-12 mass band. These extra rehearsals will ensure our Grade 9 students get some extra assistance on the music which is more challenging!

Festival Showcase Concert/Awards Night - May 7th

Our annual Festival Showcase Concert featuring all 9-12 band students and Senator Riley Grade 7 & 8 Bands. Downbeat is 7:00 PM. Students must arrive no later than 6:30 PM in uniform to warm up.

ABA Festival of Bands - May 13th

Our final festival performance of the year will be on May 13th in Red Deer. All students in Grades 9-12 are expected to attend. We will be travelling via coach bus, departing from High River around noon, and returning in the evening. More details to come soon...

Regional Band Concert @ Blackie School - May 27th AM

The Regional Band wind up concert at Blackie school. More details to follow soon!

Senator Riley Year End Concert - June 2nd Evening

Our annual appearance for Symphonic Band Students at SRMS. We will perform a couple of pop favourites
