April Update

Good morning Highwood Band Families!

We hope families had an enjoyable and restful spring break. It has been a busy time over the last few weeks in the Highwood Band Room.

Our students returned home from California on April 17th tired but happy after their 5 day performing tour of Los Angeles/Anaheim, where they had the opportunity to participate in workshops at Disneyland & Cerritos College, perform in the Disney California Adventure Park, as well as spend some time in the Disney Parks! Students were also able to take in sights around LA including Hollywood and Santa Monica Pier.

Our students represented Highwood very well in their clinics and performance, with many kind comments from adjudicators, and bystanders in the park stopping to even take videos of the performance! Travelling internationally with students is never a simple task, but having such amazing kids as we do in the Highwood Band Program, it was a blast. A huge thank you to all of our chaperones who were able to accompany our student musicians.

We have a busy month coming up, so please check some of the dates below:

Thursday, May 8th- Festival Showcase/Awards Concert @ Highwood

Students need to arrive for warmup no later than 6:30 PM. Concert will begin at 7:00 PM. We will be presenting our festival repertoire for you, and recognizing student excellence that evening!

Friday, May 23rd- ABA Festival of Bands in Red Deer, AB

This is our annual performance at the provincial music festival. Students will need to be at school by 6:30 AM this morning so we can depart on our coach in time to arrive for warmup/registration. We should be home by no later than 5:00 PM. More details/Permission forms to follow.

Thursday, May 29th - Regional Band Concert

Our Cayley and Blackie JH students will have their annual year end performance at Cayley School. Our Symphonic Band students will make a guest appearance and play alongside their JH counterparts. Students will be gone for part of the morning. More details to come.

Tuesday, June 3rd- Senator Riley Year End Concert

Our Symphonic Band students will make their annual guest appearance at SRMS. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM, and students should arrive no later than 6:30 PM.
