End of month update

Good morning Highwood Band Families!

As we come to the end of our 2nd month of school we wanted to send out an update just to keep everyone in the loop with everything happening in the band program as it has been a busy month!

Upcoming Dates

Our students played their first concert of the year earlier this month in center court, and did a fantastic job performing some very challenging music for this early in the year. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us that evening. Your support means the world to our students who have been pouring in hours of time into their music.

Our next two performances coming up are on November 8th at Highwood High School for the Remembrance Day ceremony, as well as on November 11th at the Highwood Center (Memorial Center) in High River. These events are posted up on our calendar and events page. Please note, these two events are for Symphonic Band students only. Students will need to be in uniform, with poppies for these performances. Please join us for either, or both of these events!

Specific details about the event on November 11th at the Highwood Center will be emailed out as there are certain times we will need students ready for.

We are also still planning out details for our Jazz Night concert, which will hopefully be the last week of November, with Grade 9-12 Jazz Band students performing in center court. We will confirm the date once our clinician is confirmed and get this out to you ASAP.

Our final concert of Fall 2024 will be our annual Winter Concert, which is on Tuesday, December 10th, in the Highwood Gymnasium, 7:00pm. Admission will be by donation to the foodbank, and we will also be running a 50/50 the week previous to the concert to support activities within our program. We will also be joined the evening by our Junior High feeder schools in the Regional Band Program.

Fundraising

Our Pre-Pak meats fundraiser ends today, and all fundraised dollars on student accounts will be released to Ellison Travel for students travelling to Anaheim this spring.

We will also be running a 50/50 fundraiser the week prior to our winter concert, with proceeds going to support all of the activities happening within our band program this year. Please share this with family and friends when information becomes available.

Misc.

Please ensure you are checking in periodically on Edsembli and promoting your son or daughter to check in on it as well, to ensure they are up to dates on their assignments and playing tests.

Students should also be bringing their instruments home regularly for practice to ensure they building good habits and solidifying the concepts we are teaching and promoting in class. Our success as a program is dependant on everyone doing their part!
