Good morning Highwood Band Families,
As we head into the fall break, we have firmed up our final details for our annual Highwood Jazz Night.
Our Jazz Night will be at Highwood in Center Court on Thursday, November 28th. All Grade 9-12 Jazz Students, as well as Senator Riley Jazz Students, will perform some of of the music they've been working hard at since the beginning of the year. The evening will begin at 7:00 PM, and there will be baked goods and hot drinks available for purchase that evening. Cash only!
As well, our featured artist for this fall's edition will be Calgary Jazz trumpet extraordinaire André Wickenheiser. His bio can be found below:
Calgary based trumpeter André Wickenheiser began his musical studies at Mount Royal University where he completed an Artist Diploma in jazz performance. From there, he went on to finish both a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in jazz performance at McGill University in Montreal. He has been fortunate enough to learn from some of the greatest jazz musicians and educators in North America.

André has performed with internationally renowned artists including Pete Christlieb, Joe Labarbera, Brad Turner, Frank Mantooth, PJ Perry, Alain Caron, Tommy Banks, Jens Lindemann, Allen Vizzutti, Eli Bennett, and James Zollar.
Finally, our Purdy's fundraiser for Band and Grad students is currently running as well.
The below link is an active fundraiser for Purdy's Chocolates supporting both the Band and Grad Students.
All orders must be placed online no later than 6pm on the 26th of November.
Should anyone have any questions or issues with the online platform they can reach out to Mrs. Natasha Dunne directly via email (ndunne@shaw.ca) or phone at 403-816-4109. Pick up will be at Highwood High School on the 12th of December with the pickup times and where in the school to be determined. A separate email will be sent once this has been organized.
All students can participate, and the money will go into their fundraising accounts where they can either ask Mrs. Zuehlke to have this added to their Band trip this year or they can keep it in their account if they are in Grade 12 to help pay for Grad.
See you all at the Memorial Center on Monday for our Symphonic Band's performance!
