Band Updates

Good morning Highwood Band Parents,

Things have been off to a busy start in the Highwood Band Program this fall. This last weekend, students participated in our fall band clinics with local professionals and our guest conductor Mr. Brian Uzick, where they received some feedback and coaching on the music they are preparing for their first concert of the year.

Our first concert of the year is coming up next week on Thursday, October 17th. Students are expected to be at Highwood no later than 6:30 PM in order to warm up. The concert will begin promptly at 7:00 PM and will be in Highwood's Center Court. We may be live streaming this concert as well, so please keep an eye out for those details should we go ahead with that.

We also have added a new class to our Music Program for the first time in many years. Leadership in the Arts 35 is a course designed for students to take throughout grade 10-12 band, and focuses on building strong, empowered leaders within our music community at Highwood. Students who complete this course will receive 5 credits at the completion of grade 12. To date we already have 17 students enrolled, which is a testament to the dedication of our students in the Highwood program.

Finally, we are still looking any some new parents to the program who might be interested in taking part in our Highwood Band Parent's Committee. Our fundraising coordinator Mrs. Natasha Dunne is hopeful to work with someone this year who could carry on fundraising efforts next year as her child will be graduating at the end of this school year. Please reach out to either Mr. Wiest or Mr. Stearn if you are interested in getting involved with music at Highwood.

Thanks and see you at the first concert!

-Mr. Wiest
